Claremont Historic Resources was founded as The Claremont Historic Resources Center in 1979, funded by a grant from the State Office of Historic Preservation and matched by the City of Claremont in office space, supplies, and money. It provided the first regularly staffed, centralized resource and information distribution preservation office for the community, and carried out programs for Claremont Heritage, Inc. The Center received a second grant from the State Office of Historic Preservation for the writing of a historic preservation element for Claremont’s General Plan, documentation of historic resources, and support for the writing of the first edition of Claremont: A Pictorial History. The first edition is still available at www.abe.com or other used book web sites.

The Center also produced several self- guided walking tours on “The Claremont Colleges”, “The Village”, and “Russian Village”. After five years, Claremont Historic Resources ceased being a center and became an organization that writes and prints books. In 1999 the second edition of Claremont: A Pictorial History was published and in 2007 Claremont Women 1887-1950 was published. These books are available at a number of places listed on this web site. Enjoy the pictures, order the books, or send comments about the books on this web site.
